French Roast Coffee Supply Problems.
French Roast: Origins Unavailable
If you’ve been looking for our French Roast and wondering where it’s gone, we’re sorry to say it’s currently off the menu.
We’ve had to discontinue this coffee due to ongoing supply issues with several of the key origins that make up the blend. Our French Roast is a carefully crafted mix of Arabica beans from Central and South America including bright, clean pulp-natural coffees from Costa Rica, high-grown SHB lots from Guatemala, and smooth Bourbon Santos from Brazil. It’s a blend designed to balance richness with clarity, and to shine particularly well in milk-based drinks.
But over the past year, sourcing these coffees reliably has become a major challenge, despite our excellent networks in the coffee world.
Global Coffee Shortages
Severe droughts in Brazil have sharply reduced yields, especially in the Arabica-growing regions. At the same time, Vietnam has been hit by similar weather extremes, putting further pressure on already strained markets. With global demand for high-quality coffee continuing to rise, these supply issues have driven up competition for the limited stocks of premium beans from other areas, especially those with the flavour profiles we rely on for our French Roast.
Rather than compromise on quality or alter the character of our French Roast blend, we’ve decided to pause selling it for now.
We’re busy tasting potential replacements and working with our sourcing partners to find origins that can maintain the spirit and balance of the French Roast you know and love. We hope we can bring it back in a form we’re proud of as soon as conditions allow.
Thanks for bearing with us.
Pat McArdle. 20 May 2025.
